Morten Thomassen wrote today about PORTUGAL, who did extremely well at the Eurovision song contest in 2022.
One country that has obviously realized that is our Portuguese friends.
There, the performance in the national final is only interesting enough, but as soon as the song is on an international stage, something happens.
Just this year, perhaps not so much happened, but a much larger format on stage and an artist with her choristers on stage delivering the goods.
Here we got a performance with just as much warmth and fervor as the song itself.
Flawless vocals and a lot of charm into TV screens never hurt either, so this was taken to heart.
Now it was admittedly the juries who fell most for this proposal from MARO with friends in which they sang about longing.
Almost 5 times as many points were given to a song that was partly sung in English, it has somewhat become the new standard from this country now.
Now the question is whether you can say that having sung in English 2 years in a row is a standard then,
Our Portuguese friends have not been very good at qualifying for the final, but they are possibly still living on the fact that they still has the victory with the most points then.
I think they will continue the way they are performing now in the future, find nice songs that will make them shine on the ESC stage, that’s a good recipe.
